About this event
Once known as “the most difficult door to open in Washington, D.C.” for its exclusivity, the F Street House now opens its doors to Dupont Circle Villagers. This is a unique opportunity to tour an historic residence that once served as part of the Union Army’s headquarters and later became the legendary F Street Club—an epicenter of political, cultural, and journalistic life in the 20th century.
Within its walls, U.S. presidents welcomed foreign dignitaries, policymakers debated strategy, first ladies hosted elegant receptions, and journalists exchanged the stories shaping the nation. We will hear these “only in D.C.” stories while viewing works of art and historic artifacts, including Ulysses S. Grant’s Civil War campaign field desk, which accompanied him onto the battlefield.
Today, the F Street House serves as the official residence of the 19th President of the George Washington University.
There are two sets of stairs to the front entrance, but there is an accessible entrance that's also available if needed.
